ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, directs and supervises all functions of the Districts transportation program, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards. Supervises transportation office staff, Area Transportation Supervisors, bus drivers, bus monitors, and all related transportation activities. Monitors budget and expenditures for compliance with budgetary allocations; approves invoices and statements for payments. Identifies and communicates to District and State Administration the needs and accomplishments of the Districts Transportation Program. Receives and responds to concerns. Assist Transportation Supervisors in investigating accidents and incidents. Coordinates the annual inspections for district owned activity buses, maintains records and bills individual schools for cost of repairs. Approves bus stops in a safe location. Oversees the recruiting, interviewing process. Oversees the hiring process including background/driver record checks, and pre-employment drug testing. Develops and provides in-service training and staff development opportunities. Verifies commercial drivers license training and testing to federal standards. Maintains personnel records on all employees. Keeps records for preparation of state and local reports. Interprets transportation procedure and regulations to public and staff. Makes recommendations that may improve transportation services and efficiency such as rules and regulations for drivers and pupil conduct. Evaluating supervisory staff. Assist with special projects as assigned. Performs additional duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor. JOB SPECIFICATIONS EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires a Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field supplemented by six to nine years of related administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must obtain within 6 months of hire date a valid Commercial Drivers License and a School Bus Driver Certification. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises area transportation supervisors directly and 250 regular/sub bus drivers and monitors indirectly. Is responsible for the overall direction, and coordination of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
